Human Scale Cities
Cities are becoming less car-friendly, as more value is given to the quality of residents’ lives. Streets, buildings and squares are being built to do justice to people’s needs – wide pedestrian areas instead of express roads, plenty of green areas and small-scale building structures instead of concrete jungles.
More and more cities are focusing on this concept and turning erstwhile city motorways and busy city-centre roads into open spaces for pedestrians and cyclists. An example of this is in Paris, where a three-kilometre stretch of road along the River Seine has been converted into a pedestrian zone. Autonomous vehicles will also help to create more parks and space for the general public in future.
