Autonomous vehicles will turn our understanding of mobility completely upside down over the next few years. With their numerous radar, lidar and camera systems, modern cars scan their surroundings much more accurately than human drivers. Artificial intelligence is the missing piece of the jigsaw for finally fully replacing humans as drivers. At the moment, smart decision-making systems are being trained using countless hours of image material. The aim is to give machines an imagination of their own so that they can react to new situations on the road. Finally, autonomous vehicles will have to prove that they are far superior to human drivers in order to be accepted by the political world and society at large.
